In 1981, Karl Heinz Hütten worked together with one of his fellow students at the Krefeld University of Electrotechnology (Fachhochschule für Elektrotechnik) to found C.O.P. Computer Organisation und Programmierung GmbH. The company that began as a student’s side business soon began to gain momentum. In the 1980s, the Krefeld-based company successfully programmed its first industry software for a timber merchant, which, at that time, was based on the Commodore PC. By 1993, the company was one of the leading providers to develop software based exclusively on Windows. A short time later, the company converted its wood industry software to be based on the ERP solution from NAVISION, which facilitated the implementation of financial accounting and inventory management systems for the first time.

acadon AG was formed in 2001 as a result of the merger between Erftstadt-based K&H Förster GmbH, C.O.P. Computer GmbH and Software IN TAKT GmbH, the company founded by current acadon board member Klaus Fander. With overseas subsidiaries in Switzerland and Austria and branch offices in Braunschweig and, as of 2009, Ahaus, the company continues to expand.

acadon is financed using shareholders’ equity. Any surplus funds earned since the company’s founding have been invested in the expansion of the company.
